Party of One vs. Party of More: Rethinking Hotel Ad Strategies

Facing the challenge of a limited cast for your property ad?

After our one-woman show wowed a festival jury again, I pondered that question.

Picture this: A family clan or love-struck duo, navigating your property like it's their own wonderland. Family members become your hotel's unofficial tour guides. Little Anna sliding down a spiral slide and leaving her mom soaked… Comedy gold! Dad’s victory dance after sinking a putt on your mini-golf course, your golf-enthusiast viewers are right there with him, fist-pumping in their living rooms.

And couples? They're your secret weapon for showcasing romance-ready nooks and spa adventures.

When the couple shares a sunset hug, romance-seeking viewers are already mentally packing their bags.

A "How to Be Wowed" instructional video for your viewers is the obvious perk of featuring a group of people in hotel videos, but there's a subtler, yet powerful effect at play here.

They love each other…right?

Even though the property is technically the star of the show, human brains are wired to connect with human stories. When viewers see a couple or a family in these ads, they are not just seeing random people – they are subconsciously crafting a whole narrative about their relationship. The actors become viewers' living, breathing, room service-ordering avatars. Your potential guests are emotionally checking in.

On our shoot, we had to reduce crew headcount. Angelina, our 1st Assistant Director, suggested using only one actress. I was hesitant, thinking that losing the couple/family dynamic would be a challenge, but the result turned out to be a one-on-one conversation with each potential guest.

Create a more intimate, personal narrative

With a solo star, you're not just showing a hotel - you're inviting viewers into a personal adventure. It's like whispering a secret directly into your audience's ear. "Psst... this could be you!" Your lone explorer becomes the viewer's confidant.

Highlight individual experiences vividly

When you're not juggling a cast of many, you can zoom in on those delicious details. Watch as our heroine savours every sip of that morning tea/coffee, while enjoying a boat ride into the sunrise. With one actor, every action becomes a blockbuster moment. It's like having a magnifying glass on the guest experience - and trust me, your viewers will be glued to the screen.

One actor means one person to wrangle, one set of needs to meet. More time for perfecting those money shots, less time keeping Little Tom away from the chocolate fountain.

One guest, one journey, one unforgettable story!
